Urban Ecosystem Services and Determinants of Stakeholders’ Perception for Sustainable Cities Planning in Cotonou (Benin)

Anarchic urbanization and land artificialization expose urban ecosystems ecosystem services (ES) to threat. Urban trees play a crucial role in improving environments, their management depends on the perceptions preferences of residents. An assessment socio-ecological factors determining perception actors allows for proper design planning ecological policies adaptation climate change. The objective this work was determine key determinants (factors) stakeholders’ ES generating information preservation Cotonou municipality. In way, we assessed discriminating variables different stakeholders provided city Cotonou. Thus, 381 dwellers were individually interviewed after statistical sampling. Focus group discussions with also made it possible highlight use units (LU). results show that 73.23% agreed they aware services. hierarchical classification shows two homogeneous groups perceivers ethnicity, age, education as statistically sociological (pv ˂ 0.001). perceived more SEs cultural regulatory category significantly < 0.001; v-test > 3). principal component analysis (PCA) reveals varying availability according LU city. It will be worthwhile apply study processes decision-making environment policy sustainable cities Africa all over world because adds scientific value.
